Canada ADS-B

Post by Coastflyer » Wed May 05, 2021 6:19 am

A question for you Canadian pilots. I am considering the Ads-b options for my Rebel. I definitely want to be able to go to Canada to poach your beautiful BC lakes and salt inlets. I understand your government went with a satellite based system along with the rest of the world except the US. This requires a 1080ES transponder with diversity antennas (one on top and one on the bottom). My question is: what is actually happening in Canada with regards to general aviation? When the the new system becomes mandatory, how restrictive will it be? Would I be able to navigate around controlled airspace without the required equipment, like we are able to do now in the US, or will I need to be in compliance to even cross the border?
Thanks
Jesse

Sorry, it’s 1090ES, not 1080
