Hi Ramblers !

Just a quick note to remind everyone about the Ramble
Kick-off BBQ at the Brampton RAA Hangar on Monday night,
about 6 PM - 9 PM ... Hope to see a bunch of you there !!
We'll have Name Tags & Buttons ...

I'm still looking for someone to get the Ramble daily updates
from the Ramble Phone - (905) 457-5238, and post our
progress to the email list. This will save our phone from
being busy all day ! I can try to email as well, but I can
only send to Sympatico.ca customers, and not very
consistently !!! :-(
(My Treo phone doesn't work in Saskatchewan, etc. ..)

Please post a note here if you plan to fly in Monday
& camp overnight ... if anyone is going to do that.
Otherwise, we'll see you all at Killarney for lunch, and
Gore Bay for the night on Tuesday, or Wednesday morning,
if we get rained out on Tuesday .... We can't leave too
early for Drummond anyway, as Customs DOESN'T OPEN
until NOON (My kind of people ! ;-) ). Customs will want
a bunch of info by phone first - names, birthdays, etc.,
so we'll be on the phone for a while - and everybody has
to be there - we pass the phone along ! Ditto for flight plans..

We'll likely do our map session in the morning, (Wed.)
then file the flight plan(s), and head out - unless the group
wants to do it Tuesday evening ...

I can do it until the 10th and I might be able to talk Gail into doing
it thereafter? since she will be calling the number anyway.

Bob Patterson

[rebel-ramble] Ramble Kick-off BBQ

Post by Bob Patterson » Mon Feb 20, 2012 5:47 am

Hi Ken !

We'll have a burger for you ! :-) Or .... you could
DRIVE down ! ;-) :-)

We're in full panic mode too - finished oil change today,
and new air filter -- still have tailwheel tire & tube to change
tomorrow, as well as tent to set up & spray with waterproofing...
Already changed one main tire & tube, and re-installed old
GPS antenna - and had the radio/GPS updated & new battery ...
.... and then there's packing !!

You should be fine to get to Drummond for fuel, if you're
full leaving home .... especially if you're flying at a leisurely
pace ! :-) Wiarton's rooftop restaurant is good ...
This is the last time you can climb up to 8,500 enroute,
for the water crossing - enjoy it ! We're capped at 6,500 ft.
after the 5th .... thanks, Nav Scam !! :-(

In Gore Bay, we'll likely go to Rocky Racoon restaurant,
on the bay - but you'll need the courtesy car - it's several
miles to town. We'll all go together if we can - might take
a few trips .... (You could fill a gas can on the way, if needed...)
Since town is a fair drive, breakfast might be MR Bars ... ;-)
.... and lunch too - there's nothing at Drummond ...
We'll be ready for supper at the casino !

Canada Post has no idea where it is !! "Maybe Thursday" is
the best guess ... I'm trying to make other arrangements -
we're going with our old Digi-Fly for now .... :-(

The weather forecast is looking pretty bad for Tuesday,
AND Wednesday ..... but this is only the 'weekend forecast'
- wait until the real forecasters return !

Guess we'll all stay tuned here - if the weather's
looking bad, we might have to sit at home for a day
or 2 .... Possibly fly up Wednesday morning, and
directly on to Drummond & Schoolcraft ...
Not going to take any chances, but ..... I'd rather
be on the way, stuck in Manistique, or somewhere - there's
lots to go over, and we could have a looooong party ! :-)

Doesn't look like we're going to make it to Brampton for the BBQ. Lotsa
stuff to do still. Weather permitting we will be heading North on tuesday.
We might do lunch in Wiarton instead of Killarney and meet you in Gore
Bay on Tuesday especially if there is much turbulence. Haven't looked at
it closely but I want to make it to Drummond for first refueling. What
was the name of that dinner restaurant in Gore Bay? Did Canada Post
come through?
Ken
