[rebel-ramble] Tie downs & camping at Vernon, BC

Bob,

Talked to the airport manager who says the fee is actually an overnight
parking fee whether you bring your own tie downs or not and his hands are
tied since its a city bylaw. However, if you were arriving during the week
before July 9, he would have been on holiday... (me too actually but I am
back on the 8th myself). I will pass on your concerns of the pricey fees.

Call me when you have a more definite ETA and we can also phone the
campground ahead to reserve some spots. My cell phone # is (250) 309-4315.
If the call is between 7am and 5pm during a week day, you can call my toll
free
work # 1-800-884-9822 ext 229. If for some reason, you don't reach me at
either # you can call Bev at (250) 549-7087. She is the VFC secretary and
can also do a fanout notification to members for a barbq.

Looking forward to your arrival and in helping any way we can.

Roberta

Thanks Roberta !

Looks like we'll have to supply our own tiedowns anyway,
as there were none on the airport - looked like somebody
cut the rings on the pavement ..... We always travel with
tiedown stakes/screws, and ropes, anyway.

We are quite happy to stay out on the grass, if they can
point us to an area we can use for the night. Don't mind
paying a small fee, but $12 would be double the highest
fees anywhere, and a bit excessive for providing NO tiedowns !!
I don't think ANY of the places we stop HAS a tie down fee -
they are just happy we buy so much fuel ! :-)

We are all looking forward to spending a night camping
beside the lake again, and visiting all the wonderful folks
at Vernon Flying Club. Looks like it'll be Tuesday or
Wednesday night .... will let you know when we get closer.

Thanks for looking out for us !

[rebel-ramble] Tie downs & camping at Vernon, BC

Thanks again for all you do for us !!

I guess we need a bunch of people to write letters to the Mayor &
council, letting them know how much they are hurting the airport
that they have grand plans for. Certainly, if it weren't for the Ramble,
and the great welcome we get from VFC, we would never stay overnight
at a place with a $12 "overnight parking fee".... We stopped going
to Kelowna years ago, because they charged $6, and only provided
2 wing tiedowns - nothing for the tail, unless you dragged over
a large rock yourself.

Years ago, when the city took over the airport, Swift Current
tried a $6 fee - and everyone stopped overnighting in Swift Current
- in fact, they didn't even stop there for fuel !
Now, there's no tiedown fee, and they offer a free car,
or a hangar space for $10/night ....
.... and many pilots DO stop there !

I hope the manager will at least allocate an area for us to
tie down - maybe about 10 - 15 aircraft .... we're never sure !

Thanks for the numbers, and making all the arrangements - you
folks really do make the visit to Vernon one of our favourites !!
It looks like we'll be in on the 10th or 11th, but we'll definitely
call as soon as we know better - you are amazing at magic-ing
up a party on short notice !!
