[rebel-ramble] Ram Falls airport - & others

Post by Bob Patterson » Mon Feb 20, 2012 5:47 am

Hi Garry !

Thanks ! No worries about mogas when there's lots of
Western Hospitality !! :-) Ramblers are always pleasantly surprised
at how helpful people are, all over this great country ! I really
wish we could get more folks from Quebec & Eastern Canada
to join us .... (Some of them have 912 Rebels, and we already
have TWO of those coming !)

Sounds like an exciting trip up to Ram Falls !!

Anyone interested in Ram Falls airport can check it out at COPA's
Places to Fly section .... lots of interesting airports there !! A bit
easier than trying to find an old Canadian Flight Supplement book ...

http://www.copanational.org/PlacesToFly ... 23&pr_id=0

Looks like getting there will be the exciting part !! Up to Red Deer, and
in by following the highway as far as possible, I guess ....

For Ramblers wanting to learn more about the airports we might
stop at, you can see more detail at:

For Canada:
http://www.copanational.org/PlacesToFly/
For USA
http://airnav.com/

These sites have detailed info, and some pictures - beware, though
that the info may not be current !! Good to see the general area,
in any case.

FOKM is back just fine. Lots of improvements over the winter and I've
been back in the air now about 10 days. Going from High River to Ram
Falls tomorrow for an outing. Ram Falls is interesting as it is about
5300' asl which makes it a pretty high altitude airport. Its in the
closed section of the CFS and you need a pretty old CFS to find the
details.

Among the changes this winter were an oil filter added to the engine and
a Scott 3200 replacing the Scott 24B. If anyone is considering a 24B (or
2000) for a Rebel, I strongly advise you talk to me first to see what
you might be in for.

That will be much appreciated Garry.
How's FOKM doing these days?

The High River stop south of Calgary is my base. I have lots of gas
containers and of course a car to go in and get as much as is wanted.
Calgary is not a problem that way.

[rebel-ramble] Ram Falls airport - & others

Post by Garry Wright » Mon Feb 20, 2012 5:47 am

Hi Bob,

Trip to Ram Falls went well. 12 aircraft showed up from 5 different
points of origin. Lunch was great except for the mosquitoes and we did
the hike to the falls as well. Nice location but you can't go anywhere
much but back where you came from unless you want to go over the top.

We did the gps route north from Springbank to Clearwater airport and
west into Ram Falls. Simple but limited options for emergency landings.

Thanks for the pointers.
