Hi Ken !

We used to taxi through the fence to the gas station next to
Drummond A/P .... but the owner's insurance company caught
up to him, and he's not allowed to pump gas into aircraft....
But he does have a few gas cans available ! ;-) :-)

Moose Jaw North ???? We stop at Moose Jaw Municipal -
guess that's the same place .... never noticed mogas, but it might
well be there ....

Park Falls is a bit closer than Philips ..... but you're right,
it's a fair detour.

If you go to:

http://www.airnav.com/fuel/local.html

you can type in the ident for the stops, and see everyplace
nearby that has Mogas ......

You'll likely be able to get mogas in most places, with
a bit of effort. There's a gas station about 2 miles down the
road from Manistique - maybe the casino shuttle driver
needs to go there for gas .... ;-)

I'm sure the Sub will adjust to 100 LL - best to see how
it likes it before The Rocks .... probably good stuff at altitude.
Mind you, we'll likely get to 8,500 ft. long before Alberta ... :-)

Glad to hear the Customs decals come quickly -
we recommend everybody order them now, rather than
getting them when we cross the border. We usually stick
them on the door post, where they can be seen through

most of the info ahead of time - leave the dates, though ... ;-)

Maybe those who are leaving from the West can order
their maps to ship later, on the chance that they might get
the latest ones -- BUT -- allow a week for Canada Post to
deliver them !!!

The only places I'm sure you can get Mogas are Carlyle, SK,
and Drummond Island,MI - there's a gas station next to the airports !
Of course, you can also run into town at Gore Bay and
Ashland, WI , using the courtesy cars -- and I'm sure you
could get a ride in at Lyncrest and Vernon .... :-)
I do suggest that anyone who CAN burn mogas might want to
bungee one, or two, 5 gallon plastic gas cans into the rear fuselage -
empty, of course, and be sure the vent is OPEN ! This might
come in handy, in case of emergency --- some airports
have run out of gas at Oshkosh time !! :-(

We WILL have a FUN trip !! Everyone, please contribute

Thanks Bob. I think this might work out well for mogas. I can easilly
get to Drummond, then Park Falls or Ashland, then maybe fill at
Crookston so I'm not empty at Lyncrest, then Moose Jaw, maybe Salmon Arm
(N. of Vernon), Abbottsford and/or Arlington.

With luck perhaps I can get a jerry can top up in Lyncrest. That just
leaves the Calgary area where I don't see anything unless I can find an
airport with a gas station beside it in that area.

I haven't found anything East of Seattle but some of this may be word of
mouth as a few places have had mogas on the airfield for years but do
not advertise it. Having it on the field is also assurance that there is
no alcohol in it as it's a bit awkward to test for booze before
purchasing gas. Hopefully I can ask around and avoid hearing that I just
flew past someplace that sells it. Yes the Soob should run fine on
100LL but it's quite abrasive on valve guides, hard on the oxygen
sensor, and it complicates the oil situation as it is not particularly
compatible with 100% synthetic oil. I'm looking for a suitable
semi-synthetic 20-W50 or similar but I'm starting to think that it won't
be necessary. Altitude is not an issue with the injected engine and
submersed pumps.

The High River stop south of Calgary is my base. I have lots of gas
containers and of course a car to go in and get as much as is wanted.
Calgary is not a problem that way.

FOKM is back just fine. Lots of improvements over the winter and I've
been back in the air now about 10 days. Going from High River to Ram
Falls tomorrow for an outing. Ram Falls is interesting as it is about
5300' asl which makes it a pretty high altitude airport. Its in the
closed section of the CFS and you need a pretty old CFS to find the
details.

Among the changes this winter were an oil filter added to the engine and
a Scott 3200 replacing the Scott 24B. If anyone is considering a 24B (or
2000) for a Rebel, I strongly advise you talk to me first to see what
you might be in for.
