Thanks Keith !

We always appreciate the warm welcomes we get wherever
we go ! I think the cafe was closed the last time we stopped -
but the FBO was helpful, and we all shared snacks from our
supply of protein bars, etc., in his lounge, after refuelling.
We always have food & water with us - just in case ! ;-)

Ramblers have to take our chances - we can never say
for sure when we're coming -- might get to Grand Rapids
on the 5th ... or not be able to stop at all (very unlikely !!) :-)
It's a nice, very well equipped airport, and about the right
distance out from Ashland, WI, that we're ready for a
break ! Landing uphill is fun - and there's a special lake
for seaplane pilots (brave ones ! :-) ) It has a 'keyhole'
slot for a bit of extra length ! :-)

You can usually check the Ramble phone to see where
we are, and where we plan to be over the next couple
of days ..... :-) There usually isn't a problem handling
our small group, but it might help if they were warned
ahead of time .... Thanks !

Looking forward to meeting you at Grand Rapids !

in anyway we can.
Also, has the airport cafe been notified of your plan? If not perhaps
I can be of service, please do not hesitate to ask.

Bob: I have recently been informed that the Grand Rapids Minn. airport
cafe is closing its doors at the end of June.
Perhaps if I know the size of the group that will be flying in I could make
other arrangememts. Also in a former E-MAIL you mentioned a Ramble
phone to check on your progress, what is the phone number.
Thank you Keith Pierson

Thanks Keith !

These things happen, so Ramblers have to "be prepared" ! Too bad
they couldn't stay open one more week ....

It might be good to go to town for lunch, but not urgent, as most
of us will have a good supply of meal replacement bars & protein bars -
or other foods, and water. Guess we were offered a taxi last time,
but were happy at the FBO lounge....

If your group does have the time & inclination, we sure would
be happy to join you for lunch in town .... Doesn't have to be
any place fancy - burgers or pizza is fine !

Like most of the stops on the Ramble, Grand Rapids isn't
absolutely essential - for most, the whole leg to TVF <COULD> be
flown in one shot. The object of Rambling is to see interesting places
and meet interesting people, AND - it's a good time/distance for a
break, and some will need fuel. More frequent breaks contribute
to safety, especially early in the Ramble, and we always have fun !

The Ramble phone number is: (905) 457-5238. We will TRY to
update the message daily to keep everyone posted on our progress.
Not sure of numbers yet, but you'd likely be safe if you figured on
about 10 - 20 aircraft ... give or take ... There are 43 people on
the list right now, but some will not be able to come, and
some others will show up, even though they are not on the list ! :-)
Everyone is welcome to join in, even for a day or 2 - hope you can
fly along, even if it's just to Thief River Falls ....

Bob: I am sure that you have your itenerary all planed, but
there is an alternative, you could stop at Hibbing where you have a choice of
four runways 6758' 31-13 or 3075' 4-22 and no hill. also the fuel is cheaper
then Grand Rapids. And there is a loaner van and car if anyone needs to go
to town. It's a big friendly airport.
There is a bar across the road (a short walk) that serves soup, sandwiches,
and hamburgers.

Bob Patterson

[rebel-ramble] Grand Rapids MN

Post by Bob Patterson » Mon Feb 20, 2012 5:47 am

Thanks Keith !

Hibbing is a possibility - there's also Eveleth up there .... both are
a bit of a detour. The reason for Grand Rapids was -- it's right on our
course line -- the highway ! ;-) :-)

Hibbing does sound like an interesting side trip .... and Rambling
IS 'navigation by consensus', so we might end up there ! As I said,
the Grand Rapids stop isn't strictly necessary, but it's a long enough
leg that a break there is good for safety (and a high P-factor ...). :-)
We should stop somewhere, just for a break... and landing practice ! ;-)
I guess we'll "wing it" - as usual, and decide on the day, or on
the way ..... :-)

Sorry, I know that makes it difficult for you to plan a reception,
but we just don't know for sure where or when we'll be anywhere -
there might be weather, or mechanical/electrical things to fix,
and we mostly stick together as a group, helping each other.
You will most likely hear us on 122.75 - a long way away ! .... :-)
