[rebel-ramble] Ramble 2007 - stop at High River, AB

Post by Bob Patterson » Mon Feb 20, 2012 5:47 am

Hi Garry !

Thanks for all the work ! Sounds like High River will be another
famous stopover ! :-)

Rambling always involves 'navigation by consensus', but, for now,
we'll put High River in as a stop - can't even guarantee that it'll be
overnight at this point though ... always depends on the weather, and
how anxious the group is. ;-) Might be just a quick fuel & weather
check stop ... or we might be there for 3 days, like we were in Okotoks,
one year, waiting for better weather ! (I added H.R. to the Flyer -
you'll see it if you download again - will likely update it again later,
as it looks like we'll leave on July 3rd, now.)

Certainly would be great if we could hit it for a BBQ... right now,
it looks like we might just stop on Tuesday, July 10th, on our way in
to the Rocks, to RON at Vernon ... but that might be: we arrive at
High River on Monday, the 9th, and Remain Over Night -- or ????
That's one great thing about Rambling - we're never sure WHERE we'll
be, or WHEN ! :-) We CAN phone ahead, though, as soon as we know
our plans ... Sorry, I know that makes it difficult, and we do
appreciate the efforts of everyone along the way to accommodate us -
it's really the PEOPLE we meet along the Ramble that make it so great !!

Be great to have you along, both going West, and back !

Bob,

I have checked this out with our airport authority and the FBO and the
group is most welcome in High River for camping or any other kind of
shindig. There are lots of hotels and motels available, restaurants, and
such, close to the airport, and my hangar for anyone who needs to do a
little work.

The EAA Chapter 1410 (the chapter that brought the Lancaster to Osh)
will be interested in setting up a BBQ - schedule dependent I suppose,
and also wants to organize a homebuilt fly-in to coincide with the
arrival of the flight. This might only work well if arrival on a weekend
but one never really knows. There are lots of interested people here for
home-building and Murphys.

Our cross wind runway is in service as a gravel strip for now so we have
some definite one-ups over Okotoks. This isn't official yet but it is
real. Only problem could be around that time there might be a paving
crew working on it.

You would be amazed at how much development has taken place at High
River just since you were here with FOKM. A stop in both directions is
warranted and I plan to join the flight here to Chilliwack, then back to
Osh.

Let me know if you can change your itinerary to include our illustrious
location.

You could talk us into it, you silver-tongued devil ! ;-)

Not sure about camping there, but there are nearby hotels
& restaurants, and a beer store .... Meets our criteria ! :-)

Okay Bob. Thanks. We all know the rules around flying - especially in
the rocks. Wind and clouds will probably conspire to keep you here for a
morning passage of the great divide. Looking forward to it.

Hi Bob - Sparwood is a fabulous place to add to your itenerary, do a little
fly fishing or rod and reel fishing off the foot of the airport in the
river!! The club members are fabulous and the airport facilities
terrific. Also, everyone has free room and board if you stop at Victoria
or Saltspring island!!!
Cheers
Jill
