Winnipeg Party at LynCrest !!!

Post by Bob Patterson » Mon Feb 20, 2012 5:46 am

Hi Ramblers !

Here's an update on plans for Winnipeg. Below, in reverse order,
is some email between Jack Niema (our host at LynCrest - otherwise
known to previous Ramblers as 'Bluenose' ;-) ), and Kevin Psutka,
of COPA, and myself.

This is going to be THE highlight of the trip west !! We're
really looking forward to this one - hope the weather will co-operate !
Anyone want to leave a day earlier ?? ;-)

Sure - go for it. The folks here are really getting into this. Every day
it seems there's a new idea of how to make your stopover great. One of our
people came up with the send-off breakfast idea on Thursday. We did a
breakfast for the RAA National Convention that was held here last September.
It was fun and the folks from our club who did that want to repeat for the
Ramblers.

Lyncrest has become an exploding hotbed of GA activity. Owned and operated
by the Springfield Flying Cub it is now also home to RAA Winnipeg and their
outstanding new final assembly building/workshop/hangar. Also, a rejuvenated
COPA Flight 35 is very active. We now have over 30 hangars on the airport
(about half of which have been built in the last few years) and a wide
variety of aircraft from ultralights to a C185 amphib with everything in
between.

I was thinking of doing a little press release to see if we can get some
media coverage of the Ramble. A "Hands Across The Country" thing in
celebration of the centennial of flight and our freedom to fly. What do you
think?

This will be great! Can't wait to see you all.

Jack & Lianne

Thanks for the kind words ! It would be great if Kevin
could fly along - maybe we'd get some coverage in COPA News ! ;-)

Mind if I post this to the rebel-ramble mail list - good
to keep everyone tuned in ... ??

Thanks !

REALLY looking forward to the bash at LynCrest !! :-)

Hi Kevin,

Thanks again for your very informative and enjoyable update on COPA
National
at Lyncrest on Thursday evening. Certainly lots to think about and, as I
said at the meeting, I still believe the money I've spent on COPA dues
over
the last 30 years has been well worth it. Keep up the great work. We'll
do
our part to spread the word and try to encourage more pilots to become
COPA
members.

Harry Wiebe says you were asking about the Rebel Ramble. The Ramble is
an
annual flying/camping trip that has covered a good chunk of North America
over the past few years. It's lead by Bob and Anna Patterson out of
Brampton. I think this year there's a dozen or so aircraft that will
depart
Brampton on about July 2 heading for the west coast. We're going to be
hosting them at Lyncrest for a super duper BBQ/Hangar Dance/Campout/Send
off
breakfast on Saturday, July 5th. A bunch of Springfield Flying Club,
RAA,
COPA Flight 35 members are planning to camp on the field with them that
night and I believe some are hoping to tag along with the Ramblers as
they
depart westbound on the 6th.

In honour of the Centennial of Flight, this year's Ramble is slated as a
"Dip your Toe in Both Oceans" affair because it will have the western leg
to
BC, then back to Oshkosh and will be followed up with an eastern leg to
the
Maritimes over Labour Day with a stop at the Stanley Fly-in.

Harry says you may be heading west in COPA's 182 around the same time the
Ramblers launch from Brampton. I think they'd be delighted if you could
join them for a while, or perhaps even just rendezvous at Lyncrest on the
5th to join in on the fun. It would sure give you a great experience of
a
unique aviation event. My wife Lianne and I Rambled with them in the
summer
of 2000 and it was a blast. For more information you can check out the
links below or drop a note to Bob Patterson at apat@istar.ca .

Hope to see you again soon Kevin. All the best!

Jack Neima
