Ramble Update

Post by Bob Patterson » Mon Feb 20, 2012 5:45 am

The following message was sent out to all Rebel owners in Ontario,
as well as the Rebel Builders email list.......

We definitely <DO> want as many people as possible to come along on
this trip ! It could well be another 4 years before we do it again ...
Please spread the word ! Thanks !!
....bobp & Anna

An update on Ramble 2000, "The Trip of a Lifetime",
Fly 'n Camping, from Brampton, Ontario to "Cicely, Alaska",
and back to Oshkosh ...... for those of you who aren't on the
Ramble email list, or haven't registered yet.

We had an introduction and planning meeting at Brampton on
June 4th, with good attendance. The route was reviewed, and we decided
to try to stop at Winkler, MB, where the Flying Club have invited us for
a BBQ, Medecine Hat, where the RAA Chapter have offered to do a breakfast,
lunch, or BBQ, depending on when we arrive, and at Vernon, BC, where the
Flying Club always welcome us. It also looks like we'll try to stop at
Marshfield, WI, for a fly-in breakfast just before Oshkosh. Exactly
where & when we stop will be decided by consensus the day before !

As you can see, we have had many offers from wonderful people
along the way ! We try to help them promote Recreational Aviation by
calling the local newspapers, etc. and giving them photos & stories
to show that the airport IS a valuable part of their community. We plan
to have a lot of fun on this trip !

At the moment, it looks like we'll have about 20 aircraft.
The Rebels & Renegades are badly outnumbered by Zeniths and Cessnas,
at the moment - so, if any of you think you might be able to come,
PLEASE give us a call at (905) 457-5238, or drop an email to:
bob.patterson@canrem.com

Many people join the Ramble for the first day or 2, then head
back home, or join in at Winnipeg, and return from Calgary, or join
us at Chilliwack, BC, and fly on with the group to Oshkosh. If you're
out west, and thinking you'd like some company for the trip to OSH,
just join in anywhere along the way. We will be leaving brief updates
on the answering machine at the above number, so you can call & find us.

We are planning a Ramble Warm-Up Weekend at Gore Bay Airport,
on Manitoulin Island, on June 24/25. They are having a fly-in BBQ,
and EVERYONE is welcome !

The plan is to fly in to Brampton Airport on Friday, July 7th,
and camp. We are planning an informal Ramble Kick-Off Party for the
afternoon & evening - again, EVERYONE welcome !! This coincides with
the Brampton Flying Club's Pre-Oshkosh BBQ, so there should be a
fair crowd ! Some nearby Ramblers plan to <drive> in, and fly from
home on Saturday, to join us at Wiarton or Gore Bay, on the way to
Drummond Island for Customs, and Manistique,MI for the R.O.N. at the
Holiday Motel & Fireside Restaurant.

Hope to see you somewhere along the route, or ALL THE WAY !!

.....bobp

Ramble Update

Post by Jack Neima » Mon Feb 20, 2012 5:45 am

Hi Ramblers (or Rambler wannabes);

I know Dave Qualley volunteered to do these updates but I think he said he was away til Sunday evening so I'll do this qucik one and Dave you can run with it from here.

I called Bob's number a few times yesterday and early Sunday but no news. Called again early Sunday afternoon and picked up an update. It appears they didn't make it to Manistique last night. Bob's message says they got turned around by bad weather and had to head back to Gore Bay. They were hoping to get off again today and, if the weather co-operates, they'll RON in Manistique or press on to Ashland, Wisconsin. Ashland would put them more or less back on schedule for our meeting in Winkler tomorrow evening so I hope they make it as we're itching to join in. The weather in Winnipeg is not too bad today and the public forecast for tomorrow is for a mix of sun and cloud with a slight chance of rain. NavCan's new Graphic Area chart is showing so pretty heavy precip west of here though, so it could be interesting. Here's hopin'.......

Ramble Update

Jack.. Thanks for stepping in for me..
I'm back from Arlington now.. Another great show this year! And great weather to go with it...
I was talking to Daryl and Colleen at Murphy.. They didn't seem to know as much as they would like to about the Ramble in YCW.. They are expecting the group for a Factory tour on Friday, and will host BBQ at some point as well.. They need to know how many people to expect at the BBQ so that they can find a location, and buy the food.. I think they were planning to have something at Daryl's house, but if there was more than 15 people there wouldn't be enough room, or something along those lines.. If you talk to Bob, can you get him to leave an estimate on the number of people on his machine, or call the Factory directly to let them know..
The Montanna Float people said the same thing.. They had an approx. date, but would like to know how many people to be expecting..
I hope the weather improves! We've had high overcast with lots of sunny breaks here for the last couple days.. Local forecasts are showing more of the same here for the next week..

Hi all..

The Rambers have arrived into Ashland, Wisconsin. This puts them back
on "schedule" after being turned around by the weather yesterday.

Bob's message says that they plan to arrive in Winkler, Manitoba
tomorrow(Tuesday) depending again on the weather.

That's all for now..
Dave

Post by David Qualley » Mon Feb 20, 2012 5:45 am

Just a quick update today..

The group spent Wednesday night in Carlyle, SK.. They plan to be in
Medicine Hat tonight.

The weather ahead is looking much better, so they should make good
progress in the next couple of days.

Ramble Update

Post by David Qualley » Mon Feb 20, 2012 5:45 am

Here's the latest update from our Ramblers..

They are now in Medicine Hat, Alberta for the night. I looked at the
weather in Medicine Hat earlier today.. They were reporting a
temperature of 37C!! That's warm!

The Ramble will be heading to Okotoks in the morning. The weather in
the mountains is looking a little grim right now, so a judgement call
will be made when they reach Okotoks.. If the weather is OK, they
will proceed on to Golden, Revelstoke, then Vernon for the night.
Otherwise they will overnight in Okotoks and try again on Saturday..

That's all for now!
Dave

Ramble Update

Post by David Qualley » Mon Feb 20, 2012 5:45 am

Here's the latest news from the group..

They are still in Okotoks.. Some are staying in their soggy tents, and
others are warm and dry at the local Best Western..

They will try to get off to Vernon tomorrow(Sunday) morning..

Bob also mentioned that they were not in the area of the Tornado that
hit yesterday.. It was about 100 miles north of Okotoks.. So the
ramblers are all OK..

Hopefully Bob will be reporting from Vernon tomorrow..

Dave

PS: Some people have asked when the group will arrive in
Chilliwack.. If they make it to Vernon tomorrow, they should be in
Chilliwack on Monday.

Ramble Update

Post by David Qualley » Mon Feb 20, 2012 5:45 am

Sorry for the late report.. I had it all typed up last night, but
forgot to hit send before I went to bed.. Trying to do too many things
at once I guess..

======================================================

The Ramblers made it out of Okotoks on Sunday.. They are in Vernon for
the night and will hopefully be heading for Chilliwack in the Morning on
Monday.

Bob mentioned that there was a chance they may stay another day in
Vernon.. Not because of weather, but because the place is just so
nice.. I understand that the airport is right near Okanagan Lake..

Rachael and I are going to take a chance that they will be getting to
Chilliwack on Monday, and we will be heading up there.. If you don't
hear from me for a couple days, then you can assume that we are camped
with the group at Chilliwack..

Dave

Ramble Update

Post by David Qualley » Mon Feb 20, 2012 5:45 am

Hi all.. Sorry for the long gap in updates..
We were able to catch up with the group and spend Monday/Tuesday with them in Chilliwack..
The group arrived into Chilliwack around noon on Monday, and we greeted everyone with a ice cold beverages at the tie downs. The Murphy factory arranged vehicles to transport everyone to the factory, which is about a 5 minute drive from the airport. We had a tour of the factory that afternoon, then Darryl Murphy and his wife hosted a BBQ for us at his new house that evening.
Most of Tuesday was spent visiting local friends, and taking care of the airplanes.. Oil changes, minor repairs, etc..
I have some digital photos posted to my webspace.. Sorry I didn't have time to name them all, or write up descriptions.. Basically the photos are of the BBQ, tie downs, and the Factory Elite being fitted with floats before leaving for Oshkosh this weekend..
http://members.home.com/dqualley/RebelRamble/
It was a little disappointing that more Murphy planes couldn't make the trip. I believe there were 9 planes at Chilliwack in total, and about 14 people.. Only one Murphy Rebel, Bob and Anna Patterson's plane..
The ramblers left Chilliwack late in the day on Wednesday, after the last of the oil changes, and repairs were made to the planes. They spent Wednesday night in Snohomish,WA. They should arrive into "Cicely, Alaska" aka. Roslyn, WA tonight. The next stop will be Sand Point, ID tomorrow.
I will be out of town again from Saturday 'til Wednesday.. So no reports from me during that time.. If anyone wants to post a report, or just phone Bob's answering machine to check up on the group.. The number is (905)457-5238..
