LP does NOT deal directly with the public ! Stop bothering them !

If you'd been reading the emails, Keith, you'd realize that the
process is:

1. Order your windshield from Murphy
2. Murphy issues a Purchase Order to LP with your address, etc.
3. Murphy advises you of the P.O. number
4. You contact LP WITH the P.O. number, and arrange payment
for that order directly to LP.

You all should realize that this is an enormous inconvenience
for LP, and entirely unnecessary ! Murphy made these arrangements
solely to accommodate a few 'moaning minnies' who were worried
about their money, and implied they didn't trust Murphy !!!!

Several steps, and a lot of wasted time and expense, could be saved by
just ordering from Murphy and giving your credit card number
to them, as was always the practice in the past.

These same 'moaning minnies' seem to be discouraging anyone
from dealing with Murphy. This is unfortunate, as it is really
preventing/slowing them from getting back into full production.
We have enough orders for a run of floats - but now everybody
is worried they may not get them .... NOBODY has ever ordered
a kit from Murphy and NOT received it ! Yes, they have had
problems with shipping errors and lost emails, and they are
working to fix that - hence this windshield arrangement.
If there is no trust, they are out of business ....

The moaners couldn't be more effective if they WANTED them to close !

Sorry - just fed up ! They ARE trying to satisfy people,
just give them a chance .....

Sorry Keith !

I wasn't saying YOU were moaning - but some are.

Of course the problems have been Murphy's - they have acknowledged
that they lost several months of emails --- and they are moving now to
fill any orders that were missed. That's why there are 20 or so orders
going through for windshields. They made and shipped other parts
last week, and are trying to catch up with those who wrote and didn't
get answers, to see if they still want the parts.

TRUST IS MUTUAL.

Poor form Bob.

The only trust that matters is the customers.

If the business decides that it doesn't want to sell to a particular untrustworthy customer, that may make good business sense. If the customers don't trust the business, the business will never get the chance to sell anything.

[rebel-builders] Windshield

Post by craig » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:45 pm

Well, this is interesting; Bob, I hope you don't see me as a "moaning
minnie". I first emailed MAM in April regarding a windshield, as evidenced
by my PO number 4-11-2009-1D. With all the non-contact from MAM in the last
few months I got worried that I wouldn't be able to get one at all and tried
contacting again a few weeks ago. Then I went to the group. Heck, I might
have started all of this "moaning"!

There's much that could be said here about business practices and customer
relationships but I'll leave that alone. I'm glad to hear that there will
be a run of floats soon. I have a friend up here who bought an amphib kit
over 5 years ago and is waiting for a large part of the kit to be shipped.

Roland,

You WILL be doing some windshield trimming in order to get the best fit
possible. Where the windshield is formed on the top sides (area of front
wing attach) you may also have trimming here as well. Remember there is a
fairing that you will make to make transition from windshield to wing on the
D cell, some builders make it out of aluminium (as per manual) or make the
covers from fibreglass while making their windshield retainer.

I know LP Aero isn't going to send something out that is not usable.

Cheers,
Jeff

indeed going to be an issue, I need to get back to LP Aero sooner than

[rebel-builders] Windshield

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:50 pm

They've been formed crooked since day one. Maybe the bird they took the
first mould off of was built crooked! lol

Upper edge in most cases needs to be trimmed in a wedge from 1/2" on one
side to the way it comes on the other.... to get it to sit in front of the
cabin roof rivet row. Both wing root/front attach areas get hogged out and
both sides get cut off about an inch to inch and a half.... as well as some
material around the bottom edge. Don't worry.. it will fit. Use a
ceramic/fiber disc in a dremel to do your trimming...

[rebel-builders] Windshield

Post by Ron Shannon » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:50 pm

FWIW, in addition to the Dremel disc for cutting the straighter edges, I
found that a cutter bit (also called burr bit) was useful for rough shaping
of the windshield's inside corners at the wing attach area. (See
http://n254mr.com/node/1071 for a pic of some typical cutter bits)

Upper edge in most cases needs to be trimmed in a wedge from 1/2" on one
side to the way it comes on the other.... to get it to sit in front of the
cabin roof rivet row. Both wing root/front attach areas get hogged out and
both sides get cut off about an inch to inch and a half.... as well as some
material around the bottom edge. Don't worry.. it will fit. Use a
ceramic/fiber disc in a dremel to do your trimming...

Does anyone know offhand if the Elite uses the same windshield as the rebel?
Thanks!

Roland,

You WILL be doing some windshield trimming in order to get the best fit
possible. Where the windshield is formed on the top sides (area of front
wing attach) you may also have trimming here as well. Remember there is a
fairing that you will make to make transition from windshield to wing on
the
D cell, some builders make it out of aluminium (as per manual) or make the
covers from fibreglass while making their windshield retainer.

I know LP Aero isn't going to send something out that is not usable.

Cheers,
Jeff

If you have a windshield sitting around or have just received yours, can
you
check to see if yours is indeed symmetrical (mirror image). If this is
indeed going to be an issue, I need to get back to LP Aero sooner than
later.
