Hello!

One person said they put washers on the bolt between the two flaperon horns
and the push-pull tube. I'd have 3 or 4 on each side. Any problem with that?

I also had cut access holes in the bottom skin for getting at the aileron
bracket. I did this before I realized my control horn hole would run into
this. Now I have an odd shaped hole to cover and would like some suggestions
as to how to patch this together. Take a look at my web page for some
pictures: http://members.aol.com/rebel2atey

Thanks,
Dan

Dan:

I'd double that whole area with at least .025 - .032, and then re-cut the
hole and slot. I'd make the doubler at least 1" larger than the area you
are trying to cover, in a suitable nice shape, like a rectangle, then use a
staggered double row of rivets to attach it to the existing bottom skin.
Also, BE SURE to take that sharp inside turn out of that skin before
doubling it. that is a stress crack waiting to happen, no matter how well
you double it.

This is one way to do it, and for more detail you should follow the
guidelines in the "Acceptable Techniques and Practices for Aircraft Repair"
advisory circular (actually a thick book) from the FAA. If you don't have
that book, it is a goldmine of information for about $20. I don't have the
exact AC number here at work (I think it is AC 103.?? A/B), but I can get
that for you if you want me to.

Also, Sacramento Sky Ranch sells them via mail order, and you can look them
up on the internet. Their number is 916-421-7672.

This is my OPINION. Please look at the books for the facts yourself.

Good luck.

Tim
