Here's some more Rebel trim info

The max travel I could get out of my trim tab was 24 degrees... I set it up
for 9 deg tab up ..... and 15 deg tab down .. I looked up the data sheet
for
my Cessna 170 and found its limits are 10 deg tab up ...and 27 deg tab down
....
The tab down travel is limited Murphys design .. i.e. when the tab hits
the
elevator
If I had it to do over I think I would skip the trim tab and use a spring
pressure set up in the cabin..... Jim LePard .. rebel 254 ..

A couple of comments on this, for those with flying Rebels (and
Elites???) is this range of settings adequate? Would more travel be
advantageous?

On the limitation of travel in the down direction, on our Elite, with
careful placement of the spar in front of the tab (in the elevator), we
got about 27 deg. The important thing here it to position it deep
enough into the elevator to get full travel (occurs when the faces of
the trim spar & elevator spars come face to face). In our case, if we
followed the "draw the center line down the flange" positioning, full
travel was not possible. Watch for edge distances as well.

Of course, you will not achieve that much motion with the servo but
physically it is possible.

One of the requirements of certified aircraft is that it still be flyable
after loosing any single flight control. That means if you loose elevator
control you can fly using trim, INCLUDING the landing flair! Thats why
certified planes have so much nose up trim. I always wondered how Murphy's
compaired in that respect. My trim servo shure doesn't have much travel.
