I have a set of Gord's bushings on my Rebel, to compliment
Wayne's die spring gear legs, and they are very nicely done. The cost
shouldn't be toooo painful, given that our Canuck Buck is close to
par with yours !

Sounds like you're really enjoying your Rebel !! I sure
would like to come down there & fly along on one of your trips -
they sound a lot more 'exciting' than the Rambles !! ;-)
You sure fly over some rough country ! Maybe one of these years
Anna & I will come for one of those 'spam can' fly-yourself tours

I recall Darryl Murphy saying that the bungee gear is only
supposed to move to prevent structural damage to the fuselage. The
tires are the main shock absorbers - that's why I like the fat DICO
or CARLYLE tires so much !! :-) These are available from
Murphy,
at about half the cost of the skinnier 'aircraft' tires, and are
well suited to a 912 Rebel !

Do not slacken them up so the gear moves when taxying - if
the gear moves a lot, you will wear through the tops of the gear
legs very quickly. Gord Mohr makes a beautiful set of fitting to
go into the tops of the gear legs, with brass bushings inserted,
to prevent this wear - and they are essential if you go to a
die-spring setup to replace the bungees. The die-spring gear (IF
the
springs are carefully selected for rate & load) will give you
THE best ride in a Rebel. The Cessna-style spring gear tends to
"waddle", but the die spring gear just gives a great, smooth ride -
but everything is moving all the time, so lubrication & bushings
are essential.

Best suggestion for now - use the fat tires, and lower the
air pressure a bit (they work great at 12-14 lb.)......

Hello fellow Rebel builders.

Wayne O finally steered me in the right direction to this wealth of info. Just
found out last night that MAM screwed up on the seat rail measurements which
means I did too! Channels are already in.

I have a problem with the assembly of the front lower corner wrap(fus452), the
corner angle (fus 35), SG 13 & 7. This seems like it could end in one big
mess. Does the angle overlap SG 13 & 7, or are SG 13 & 7 trimmed flush with
the angle? Do you allow enough material of the corner wrap to remain under
the saddles for an even layering of material? Has anyone noticed how close
the saddle holes are to the end of the carrythru's? I related what I found to
Wayne in the message he sent " Many Questions-Few Answers". Has anyone noticed
how far in the 5/16 hole is on the photo for the spring gear mod using the
angle? I estimated that it is about 3/8 of an inch which would made it no
doubtly stronger with more material between the hole and the end of the tube.
I haven't drilled out the saddle holes any larger than 3/32 but am seriously
thinking of moving them in a bit further. My measurements are exactly as MAM
has published but I don't like the little edge distance at the end of the
tubes; especially afer reading what trouble has been experienced.

I have been told that the maximum allowable angle for cable guides is 3
degrees. Can someone confirm this? Working with this assumption I am
having an enjoyable time trying to figure out how to run the rudder
cables on my Elite. The front is OK if you place the pedals close enough
to the side walls but the back is more mysterious. Any suggestions?

Good morning Harold.

I had an inspection recently on the Stab and when asking the inspector the
things that he would be looking for in the future he specifically brought up
the 3 degrees issue as one of the things that he definitely would be looking
for.

A friend in Argentina did a nice job putting together a 76 X 58 wood prop with a three-piece nickel leading edge and four layers of glass. Anyone flying a Subaru with a Ross PSRU that wants a prop custom made for that combination, he has done the homework already. I
