Hello there,

Some of you have explained the fuel probe systems (but not where in the wing
you installed the probes) you are installing in your Super Rebels. Are
there any other ideas out there? What systems are being installed? Where
in the wings are you installing the probes?

Would appreciate any information you can provide.

P.S. Just read in the manual not to MEK before applying pro-seal. Why? Is
there a problem if MEK was applied?

I installed a Capacitance Fuel System from Westach.. Westberg MFG Inc. (707)
938-2121 (also in Aircraft Spruce Cat.) Total cost for two probes and a dual
gauge was $220. The probes I used were 24 inches long. The first 5 inches
are
bendable and the last 19 inches are used to measure the fuel quantity of the
tank. The probe is installed in the upper forward root rib were the cross
vent
would be ( I had to move the cross vent back a little ) There is a hockey
puck
size base of the probe which houses the electrical stuff . Due to the size
of
the base the 1/4 in pipe is first bent up then curved back toward the aft
bottom of the tank. The probe runs diagonally, from the forward top to the
aft bottom, next to the root rib. This helps correct for tail down or for
flight attitude. You MUST drill a very small vent hole in the highest part
of
the tube to allow fuel to flow up and down in the tube . I have tested the
system and found it to be very accurate even showing 1/2 GAL changes on the
gauge , also the fuel in the tube is damped from wing rocking motion... For

Recommended procedure seems to be to degrease with MEK and then Scotchbrite,
then wipe dust off. I usually also scotchbrite before degreasing as well but
with a different scotchbrite pad so as to avoid reapplying any grease/oil.

Some builders do scotchbrite, then use MEK. Concern seems to be that grease
will
be redeposited if the MEK is allowed to evaporate. Both methods do seem to
work
and there are pros and cons of both methods.

I recommend wearing a filter mask for organic vapours if working indoors.
