=0AI believe this goes to Bob Patterson who gave me the tip about using=
the Van's
baffle kit for the Rebel.

I just talked to Van's and they don't remember any Rebel builder orderi=
ng a
baffle kit.
Do you somebody who used the Van's kit in his Rebel?
No problem to take material off, but I would hate to add aluminum strip=
s
because it's to small.

Sorry, Stefan - I can't think of anyone here who has used the Vans
baffles, but several Rebel builders examined the set on an RV-6 that
was in the chapter hangar, and all agreed that they would be a good
choice. They really are beautiful, with smooth joggles on the sides.
The RV-6 builder said that the baffles were well oversize, so should
fit most cowls with a little trimming....

A considerable amount of gap could be filled with the rubber seals,
in any case. If you know someone at a printing shop, you can get old
'offset blankets' for free - they are high temp. rubber with woven
layers, approx. 1/8" thick - ideal for baffle seal material. They throw
them out when they have even a tiny wear spot, so they are readily
available.
They are rivetted onto the top of the baffles, through an aluminum
doubler strip, and bend INWARD into the plenum above the engine. Air
pressure pushes them against the cowl, forming a very good seal.

Hi Stefan

I am builder #328R and did order the baffle kit from Van's about a month and
a
half ago. We are in the process of installing it now. The kit is just
first
rate. The instructions are very very thorough. We ordered the kit for the
RV6 aircraft. Without doubt, we will NOT have to add any material. The RV
cowling must be considerably longer than the MAM speed cowl as we will have
to
shorten the front baffles by several inches i.e. 4-6 inches. All the
cylinder
wrap sections fit very well. Some work on the back to get it to fit but
nothing too serious. It will take awhile to finish but it is rugged. It
has
alot of doublers etc. that you never see in production aircraft. All
hardware
is shipped and even flex material to cover areas that cannot be done
satisfactorily with metal.

This kit is a very good investment I would say in time. You can also order
plans from Van's for the kit if you are still unsure for a very reasonable
cost.
