At Arlington the 2 nd factory airplane had the new flap system. The
alerions now reflex when the flaps are engaged. The flap control lever was
moved from overhead to the floor (Johnson bar style). This is the good
news, the concern I have is the flaps are controlled by a cable that exits
the top of the fuselage and runs on outside top of the airplane to the flap
control arm. This cable was covered by a 3-4 foot long fiberglass fairing.
I am looking for an alternative to the outside cable and fairing. I plan
of floats in the future so electric flaps are low on the priority list.
Does anyone have any ideas? The Beaver used hydraulic flaps, does anyone
know how that system performed and does a hydraulic system make any sense
for the SR?
Al Paxhia, SR 026

Al, I didnt like the new flap system either. I went to elecric flaps . I
but a 500 lb torc motor on the floor just aft of the right door and ran a
push rod up to the flap horn. the flaps work very nice. between the door
post
and the small window. If you want more info let me know.

Les, I would like more info on your flap drive design. Tell me more about
the motor (type, mfg. supplier, etc.) and how did you build the drive
linkage? How did you modify the flap horn? Thanks, Al Paxhia
