Hello group, My Rebel's battery is way back in the tail cone for wt&bal reasons.This makes it very inconvenient to get to, to put the charger cables on when wanting to trickle a little charge on while getting ready to fly on a cold winter morning. I was thinking of running an "extension cord" from the battery to just behind the pilot seat, where it would be easier to reach and attach the charger cables. Any thoughts, alternatives, suggestions? No reason not to run a wire pair forward to a convienient location. There are some cautions however:
1 - Be sure that the hot lead cannot ground. Fuse the hot lead at the battery. Use wire rated for the charger rating
plus 50%. Note, you could use the charge lead for power. In that case the wire / fuse should be load rated plus 25%.
2 - If your battery is a flooded cell type with removable caps and the ability / necessity to add water be sure to keep the level up.
3 - Use a charger appropriate to the battery chemistry which has a float charge ability which cannot overcharge. The charger
can be a low amperage unit of 1/2 - 1 1/2 amp. It just takes a while to charge. YUASA or Battery Tenda are suggested
quality level.

Should any one want a 12 volt plug in for charging take a look at the Powerlet.com website. They supply a high quality product, primarily to the motorcycle after market. Not especially lightweight but there are all kinds of fittings some of which have waterproof covers. Not designed for high current (I think 10A max) they will handle casual power needs and charging.
