Ski Springs

This post is kind of directed to Wayne but all input is welcomed. Wayne,
you've mentioned using garage door springs but I'm unsure how to go about
re-creating the hook on the end once I cut the spring. If I heat it up am I
changing the metal composition and inviting a break? CW
