Firming up the linkage was one design goal of my electric flaps, but I
don't think I succeeded on that score -- certainly not to the extent I had
hoped. It may account for some of the difference, but like Wayne finds with
his hard linkage, most of the flaperon play is in the horns and bell crank
-- all still there.

Speaking strictly for myself... I've no doubt that raising pilot skills
would improve my short field performance a lot more than a few more degrees
of flap! ;-)

[OT] PS - The main benefit of my electric flaps -- one design goal that was
realized -- is not having to take my hand off the throttle to control
flaps, which instead requires only a flip of the throttle hand thumb. A
somewhat smaller benefit comes from knowing the Teleflex lever hardware
isn't up where my head might go in a crash, which is comforting to a
paranoid old worry wart. ;-) The other goals -- firming up the linkage and
reducing weight -- not so much.

flight. I'm sure that would change the roll characteristics, but I'm not
getting close to that.
