Hi, everybody !!

Several of you have asked about "Brushable Pro-Seal" - there even
seem to be a few people who don't believe it exists !!!

Here is where to get it:

Leavens Aviation Inc.
2555 Derry Road East,
Mississauga, Ontario L4T 1A1 Canada

Local tel: (905) 678-1234 Fax: (905) 678-7028

Parts Order Desk: 1-800-263-6142 (don't know if this works
outside Canada ... )

Ask for Stuart or Leanne, (tell them I sent you ... :-) )

The Part no. is: PR1005L Brushable Pro-Seal

The price is: $56.60 CDN for a one pint kit, incl. hardener.

(U.S. $ get about a 40% discount !! )

This stuff is great for stopping small leaks after the tanks are
closed, but even better to brush on BEFORE closing. Great to cover rivets
and seams. Avoid putting it on too thin, though - it might peel off
later !

Good luck !!! ....bobp

Hi all
Pro-Seal can also be thin out to be brushed on with MEK. After you mix the
two parts together add MEK then use a acid brush. After you have thin it
once
dont thin it again. If you only need a little , thinning out your left over
is
a lot cheaper. Pro seal 890A-2 is a brushable type , 890B-2 is the thick
kind. The -2 is two hour set up time , it also comes in -1 or -1/2 for
faster
set up times. Faster set up times can help seal up leaks when the aircraft
has
been flying already. I got my Pro-seal from Courtaulds Aerospace (206)
483-3999 near Seattle WA
Good luck

Just a few points regarding Pro-Seal:

- the 'thick' stuff is properly called 'extrudable'
- when I mixed up a batch of Pro-Seal I put 1/2 in a sealed container
and put in the freezer immediately and left it there for an hour or so
until needed, that way I didn't waste a drop! (if you exclude the 10% of
every batch that ended up on clecoes, pliers, clothes etc.)

In a previous e-mail I gave another source for the Pro-Seal from Seal Pak in
Kansas. they have competitive prices, and this is the stuff that came
originally with my kit.

SealPak
2614 South Hoover
Wichita KS 67215
316-942-6211

They have both spatula and brush grade Proseal.

That's great for you north of the border folks. Down here there is a better
way. I talked to the people in Ontario and it seems that the brushable
proseal is a hazardous material as far as shipping is concerned and is VERY
expensive to do to the states. For the US people there is a source in
Seattle. Atlas Supply, 206-623-4679. They can ship UPS with no problems.

The PR-1005L mentioned in one e-mail is a one-part Buna-N slosh coating to
be used mainly for repair of leaks.
Just curious, Paul - if this is a one-part solution, why did Leavens
tell me the kit included a hardener ?? Was your 1005L info direct from
Courtaulds ?

It comes as brushable if you spec the same number but Class A1.

All this stuff is made by Sealants and Coatings, Courtaulds Aerospace,

about anything that flies (incuding the Shuttle) worldwide.

On the wet wing design in general: I just recently found out the new Cessna
Skyhawks now use wet wings. The photos of their opened tank show gooped up
seams very much like in my Rebel.
Oh yeah!....that's it .........they're trying to copy the Rebel!!......

Thanks for the clarification, Paul !!

This is VERY interesting - good stuff to bring along to the next
Builders Meeting (Jan.10), if you can ...

You might try AeroSpares, just around the corner from Leavens, on
Torbram. Several of the fellows have found they also have ProSeal, sometimes
at better prices !

Hi Bob. I ordered the PR-1005L from Leavens going by their cat. description
but I did not like what I received (one part sealant and no data sheet).
Leavens buy PRO-SEAL from ASC, Courtaulds Aerospace branch in Mississauga
who will only sell min. $1000!!!! batches.
I went to ASC and picked up their catalogue.
PR-1005L is a one-part a/c fuel tank sloshing compound with good stiction
to
alum. and polysulfide (eg.PRO-SEAL) sealants. It dries clear.

The P/S 890 Class B1 that MAM supplied with my kit is good stuff but
Leavens
don't have it right now.

Leavens cat. descriptions are not very good. The PR-1422, PR-1826 and
PR-1440 are all fuel tank sealants with different properties (eg. stiction,
hardness, full cure time, temp. resistance). The PS-870 is a corrosion
inhibitor.

I found a better phone number for ASC, Coutrtaulds Aerospace:
1-800-237-6649

Paul
