Some other lists I'm getting have simple text based archives in zip format
on an ftp site. You just download it and use any word processor to do your
keyword searches.

Mike,

In reading over some of the replies, it would seem that what this group
needs is a searchable archive so that each one of us can ask (search) for
the answers to our questions and somewhat avoid having the same questions
come up over and again.

I realize that this is an e-mail based forum and that to many this may be
their only means of "cyber-communications". This e-mail forum has
definately become a part of my personal "Rebel building experience" and
perhaps many others.

I have seen several web based systems that make posting, reading and
searching quite easy. Check this one out as an example:
http://bbs.gwrra.org/gwboard/motorcycle/index.html

I'm not sure how many of our group have web access nor if this is something
that anyone else thinks is an idea worth pursuing.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

Mike,
I like your 3 list idea. If you are on the "Super List" and respond to a
"builder-list" posting, will it be posted on the "builder-list" as well?
Ditto "flyer-list". Or is the "Super-List" just obtained by adding together
the "builder-list" and "flyer-list" postings for the day? I guess the key is
where the "Super-List" replies go. If they go to the appropriate uncombined
area, and the "super-list" merely combines the daily postings, that should
work. (Ain't software fun!!)
I echo others comments. You have done a fantastic job and we are in your
debt. The list has really taken off lately, thanks to your good work.

<<<SNIP>>>

3 lists, "flying-rebels" for completed projects, "building-rebels" for
working projects, and "murphy-rebels" including messages from both lists (a
"Super List" if you will). If you wish to receive only "flying" or
"building" lists messages, you join the appropriate list. If you wish to
receive both "flying" and "building" lists messages, you join
"murphy-rebels". If you are a member of "murphy-rebels" and you want to
post a message about building, you would post to "building-rebels". And
like-wise, if the message was in regards to flying, you'd post to
"flying-rebels". "murphy-rebels" would be a distribution list only, all
posts would go to either "flying" or "building" depending on their content.

Hopefully that's not too confusing! Let me know what you think.

Mike

Hello There

I would appreciate joining this list. Although I am not yet flying, I am
not
too far away and would appreciate listening into comments which may help the
final phase eg. test flights etc. Will keep quiet there with regard to
building issues.

thanks very much

I agree with Wray. I don't think splitting the list is a great idea. I'd
like to get input from everyone myself too.

I'd say this will only be good if the 'joint list' works too.

Mike I'm a little concerned with this append in that it may syphon off some
of
the experienced Rebel builders that we rely on to give us (still
building'rs)
guidance. There's nothing like the bin there done it to help those still
struggling, especially at a time when the list finally seems to be taking
off.
I don't have problem with those that are complete chatting about there
experiences on this forum (not sure how others feel ...but my delete key
still
works fine) and it won't bother me. I'm also sure that anything re mods or
upgrades those completed are thinking of will be of interest to those
building
as they may be able to incorporate them at an earlier stage. Fact is i can't
think of anything that the completeds' might talk about that I wouldn't be
interested in. (we all still have that old delete key if needed as I'm sure
the
completed guys must also have)
Would like to hear the arguments for the new list ...may whole heartedly
agree. But in the mean time I'm signed concerned ...Wray 306R

Mike Davis wrote:
At the request of one of our list members, I have set up a new mailing
list
for owners of flying Rebels.

Our builders list is becoming fairly active now, we currently have 109
members, and while I hope many of those who have completed their Rebel
project already will continue to share their experience with those still
working, I agree that there needs to be a place to discuss life after the
garage.

As always, everyone is invited to participate in the new mailing list, but
let's remember, the primary purpose for the new list is discussion for
completed Rebel owners, not initial construction topics.

To join, send an e-mail to:

list-server@dcsol.com

subject may be left blank
on first line of message starting all the way to the left, enter:

join flying-rebels
or
digest flying-rebels

Digest just sends you one message a day, with all messages posted that day
in it. That's it. To leave the list, you would again send a message to:
list-server@dcsol.com but in the message put:

leave flying-rebels

I'm looking into the possibility of constructing the lists as follows:

building-rebels < for initial construction discussion
flying-rebels < for completed project discussion
murphy-rebels < as a "Super-List" that would contain all posts to both
"building-rebels" and "flying-rebels"

As I said, I'm looking into this, I'm not sure how (if) this would work
yet.
For instance, if you subscribe to the "Super-List" and post a message
about
construction, where does it go. As I get more specifics about the
possibilities, I'll let everyone know.

For now... If you've got a completed Rebel, join our new discussion group:
flying-rebels@dcsol.com
