The Murphy Builders Site

Well it's been a bit since I updated everyone on this, and I'm afraid the news isn't good.

My host (www.bluehost.com) enforces a limit of 2000 outbound emails in 60 minutes. The way this works is when I (the site) send an email, their server looks to see how many I've sent in the previous 60 minutes, and as soon as that number hits 2000 they just drop the email... thus, you don't ever get it. There is no throttling, no hold queue... the message just disappears.

If you read the article below you'll know that I updated my hosting account to try to alleviate this problem. But with 251 members now, we hit the 2000 emails per hour anytime there have been 8 posts to the site in the last 60 minutes. I've requested a waiver from my hosting company to allow more email to go out, but have not received a response to my request yet. If they are not willing to grant the waiver, then I will be looking into other solutions.

I just discovered today that my hosting company was throttling my outbound email traffic to 150 messages per hour. Well, with over 200 members on the site, that means everytime anybody posted, that limit was exceeded immediately, and that means the system would reject any and all outbound messages from that point until the top of the next hour.

I am upgrading my hosting account today to a "Pro" account... which will give me a dedicated IP address, 30 Mbps bandwidth, as well as other features and capabilities that should improve the performance & reliability of the system.

There may be a few short outages during the course of the day as the entire site is migrated to the new server.

I finally got the login between the main site and the forum linked up, so now when you login on the main page you should not have to login to the forum separately. If you are still getting a separate login, or you are failing to login at either location, please delete your cookies and try again.
